Beware of the Dog
The title Warning of the Dog alludes to the signs that are used to protect the boundaries of the home, even if the alleged dog is a cat. In an alienated form, the installation takes up three elements of ordinary gardens:
A 1.80 m high artificial hedge surrounds the entire room. It gives It gives the impression of a perfectly trimmed and opaque enclosure. A hedge is a plant that is forced into the shape of a wall by man. forced into the shape of a wall. A fitting image for our general approach to with our environment. Contrary to its natural growth form, the shrub is instrumentalized instrumentalized to create a boundary that separates public and private space. and a private space from each other.
Rock gardens are very popular in Germany. They are clean, offer no surface for weeds and pests to attack and are easy to maintain. Like fossils, traces of past technologies lie dormant between the pebbles of the exposed aggregate concrete slabs. For us, exposed aggregate concrete is a symbol of the building mistakes of the past century and the short-sighted consumer behavior of Western societies.
The hollow chamber polycarbonate sheets tha greenhouses are usually made of only have a lifespan of a few years. They yellow quickly and develop cracks and holes through which water, and therefore life, can enter the gaps. As a result of this damage, not enough light penetrates inside and the panels or even the entire greenhouse is discarded. The house in the middle of the installation was patched together from several such ruins. The brittle, opaque material stands in stark contrast to the polarized mirroring of the interior. The pump inside allows viewers to water the house from the outside.
