Due to poaching, the population has been reduced to two females. The pulverized horn is consumed in large parts of Asia as a drug, which is believed to have an effect similar to cocaine. The horn, which has no effect from a medical point of view, fetches a higher price than gold on the black market. Other rhino species have been relocated by helicopter to conservation areas to avoid confrontation with humans. For the northern white rhino, all help came too late.
