Chamoistree
In the work „Chamoistree“ we deal with the cultural appropriation of nature. It consists of a construction resembling a cat tree, made of exposed aggregate concrete, and a stuffed chamois.
It caricatures the cultural landscape of the mountains, which has been developed for tourism. In the past, mountain farmers led a life of privation, and the higher areas could only be used for agriculture in the summer.
Today, reinforced concrete structures such as gondolas, lifts and mountain railroads make it easy to experience this extreme landscape. Skiing, hiking and mountain biking are the domains of modern mass alpinism. Chamois, marmots, hunters and mountain farmer maintain the image of the idyll. Humans decide on the basis of cultural relevance which species are worth protecting and which are not. The chamois is harmless, photogenic and is considered a symbol of European native nature.
